General Medical Council

GMC service page header image

The General Medical Council regulates all doctors practising medicine in the UK. Our regulatory and professional disciplinary lawyers are experienced in defending doctors who face investigation by the General Medical Council. We have a high success rate in defending doctors with fitness to practise and interim order hearings before the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS), the hearing centre for the General Medical Council.

The General Medical Council will investigate issues relating to:

• Misconduct;
• Poor Performance;
• Convictions/Cautions;
• Health;
• Adverse decisions by other regulatory bodies.

The General Medical Council are not limited to investigating doctors in relation to their clinical practice. The General Medical Council will investigate a doctor’s private life, if it involves issues which can be said to impair a doctor’s fitness to practise and have the potential to undermine public trust and confidence in the medical profession.

MedicAssistanceScheme lawyers also regularly advise doctors in relation to GMC registration issues, in Trust investigations, criminal proceedings, GMC restoration applications and at inquests.
