Panels of the Investigating Committee (IC) are responsible for considering all allegations made to the NMC about unfitness to practise. They will assess the evidence and determine whether the concerns are serious enough to be referred to another Panel.
Panels of the Conduct and Competence Committee (CCC) consider allegations referred to them by the Investigating Committee (IC) or the Health Committee (HC).
Panels of the Professional Conduct Committee (PCC) are responsible for considering allegations of misconduct. This can include clinical and non clinical matters.
Panels of the Health Committee (HC) decide whether or not a nurse or midwife’s fitness to practise is impaired by health and, if so, what is the appropriate sanction required to ensure the safety of the public. A nurse can not be removed from the register solely on the basis of a health impairment.
If you do have a physical or mental health impairment, we have experience of dealing with these matters in a discrete and professional way. It is possible to negotiate proportionate workable conditions with the NMC, that allow the nurse to work in a supportive environment.
Where appeals are made, panels will consider the Registrar’s decision and the appellant’s case against that decision. It is important to submit a properly constructed appeal at this stage. We can advise you on whether you have any potential appeal points and whether the Registrar has correctly interpreted and followed the relevant rules.
