All dentists, dental nurses, dental technicians, dental hygienists, dental therapists, clinical dental technicians and orthodontic therapists must be registered with the GDC to work in the UK. If you have received a conviction, caution, fixed penalty notice or have a fitness to practise history with another regulator/employer, it is likely you will have to provide additional submissions as to why your application should be granted and prove you are fit to practise.
The precise means by which you register with the GDC will depend upon your role. The procedure for dental nurses, dental technicians, clinical dental technicians and orthodontic therapists differs from that for dentists, and if you have been registered as a dentist before and wish to restore your name to the Dentists Register, you will need to follow separate procedures for restoring your name to the register. Full details can be found on the GDC web site.
A MedicAssistanceScheme solicitor can advise you on the strength of your application and how to present your submissions and evidence. It is important to be completely honest when making your application, as any untruths will be deemed as serious misconduct and your prospects of obtaining registration will be significantly diminished. Checks will be carried out on the information you provide in your application!
