The General Dental Council protects patients and regulates the dental team. In order to achieve this objective, they set standards for education, ensure continuing professional development and maintain the dental register.
All dentists, dental nurses, dental technicians, dental hygienists, dental therapists, clinical dental technicians and orthodontic therapists must be registered with the GDC to work in the UK
When a complaint or information is received by the GDC, an investigation is undertaken which may involve obtaining expert evidence, additional information from the complainant and/or accessing dental records.
The Investigating Committee may consider that the Interim Orders (‘IO’) Committee should consider making an order for interim suspension or interim conditional registration.
