The MedicAssistanceScheme helps all healthcare professionals who find themselves the subject of an investigation or who are facing the possibility of having sanctions imposed by their regulator.
Operated by Richard Nelson LLP, and with the benefit of a panel of other expert lawyers to draw upon, the MedicAssistanceScheme provides comprehensive medical regulatory guidance and can provide access for those with regulatory and disciplinary problems to solicitors who are experts in their area. In this way MedicAssistanceScheme can ensure that you are provided with the advice and guidance you need in what are likely to be extremely difficult times.
Whilst most healthcare professionals are fortunate to be members of one of the medical defence organisations (Medical Defence Union, Medical Protection Society, Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland) or the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), the reality of the situation is that some are not, or that the problem they need assistance with falls outside their benefits of membership. The MedicAssistanceScheme can fill that gap by providing prompt and effective guidance leading to professional advice to anyone who finds themselves without the appropriate defence expertise.
As a result of not being a member of a medical defence organisation, a growing number of people find themselves without advice or representation from the early stages of an investigation and either instruct solicitors privately – some of whom may not have the appropriate skills and experience – or, alternatively, act on their own behalf possibly out of a belief that other forms of assistance are not available. If you are in this position then you will find the service offered by MedicAssistanceScheme to be a timely and invaluable one.
MedicAssistanceScheme offers all healthcare professionals who call its helpline with access to up to one hour’s preliminary “diagnostic” guidance free of charge. You can be assured, therefore, that when you call our helpline, you will receive a realistic assessment of your situation and have outlined to you the options available.
Having received initial free guidance, it is then up to you to choose whether or not you wish to be represented by the firm that has provided you with the guidance. Indeed, in certain circumstances you may be able to select a different panel member to instruct or even be eligible to receive an element of further pro bono advice and or be offered a fixed fee arrangement depending on the nature and complexity of the matter.
Every one of the MedicAssistanceScheme panel members has the benefits of being registered with the Solicitors Regulation Authority and carries professional indemnity insurance cover.
